Many thanks to Filipe Bravo from Altair who visited us from Chile in July. Filipe gave a few lucky Chilean Wine Customers the fantastic opportunity to hear about and taste Altair's amazing wines. A highlight for those attending the event at the Chilean Consulate was a vertical tasting of both Altair and Sideral – each vintage demonstrating unique character as they strive to perfect their Chilean Grand Cru. In the words of Altair, the company is setting out to deliver 'The highest quality that nature and craftsmanship can achieve'.

I learnt an interesting fact to add to my Trivia knowledge on the night – Many people will know that Altair is a joint venture between Chateau Dessault and Casa San Pedro; French expertise and Chilean Terroir. The Altair star in the Eagle constellation can be seen from both the Southern and Northern hemisphere – hence the name. However, what I didn’t know – the star is visible from both hemispheres only twice a year – at harvest time.

Esmeralda

arriving into Sydney Harbour recently was a majestic sight to behold. Esmeralda is a four-masted tall ship of the Chilean Navy and one of the tallest and longest sailing ships in the world.

We were grateful to be included in a wine tasting event on board Esmeralda and are happy to report that it was a great success. We sampled a full range of Chilean wines including a wide selection of Carmenere and Syrah. Perez Cruz was considered the hit of the night with the award winning Syrah a clear favourite.

What an exciting time we had at the Food and Wine Show in Sydney! Thank you to all of you who came along to sample some of our beautiful range. We appreciate your enthusiastic input and your patience — we were four deep at the stand for much of the day and some of you waited a considerable time to hear about our wines and experience the tasting selection.

It was fantastic to see so many people trying Chilean wine for the first time and really enjoying it. We really loved meeting you all, gauging your reaction to our wines and being in such fine, appreciative company.

Two terrific wines of ours were selected for tasting at the theatre over the weekend — Santa Rita Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2004 and Perez Cruz Limited Edition Carmenere 2005. As for the Carmenere, it was definitely the hit of the show, not only with many of you, but with the Australian winemakers that visited our stand. Orders for the Perez Cruz Limited Edition Carmenere flew in along with De Martino Legado.
